moving moments . . .

I am so excited!  SO EXCITED!

So, last fall, I took the plunge and invested in a new camera, and oh how I love it.  I made the choice based on the fact that this camera (Canon 5D Mark II) could create videos!  Well, it has taken me quite a while to learn and become used to filming and taking pictures at the same time.

Have I told you how much I love my job?

Well, this is one reason why!  I just love to learn.

I love learning new things, and creating at the same time, has been so much fun for me.  So, I am sharing with you my first attempt at using the video function on my camera.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

So, many of you know, that I take pictures to tell a story.

I take pictures to tell a story about a moment in time.

I want my pictures to be visual for a period in time, and so being able to add just a few snippets of video to remember how those girls ran;  or how that sweet boy would smile; videos of “that look” or how he embraced her.  It  has been so wonderful for me to begin to learn to then add short videos to the way I can tell a story about your family, about your baby, or about your wedding.  (My husband says I need more practice.  He says I need more practice and that I should use OUR children!)

This family was celebrating a moment in time – their girls’ birthday!  Well, that was the plan . . .the rain caused us to delay our “portrait session” time, but it was so worth it!  The light on this morning was so beautiful.  The girls were able to laugh and play, read books and splash in the water.  I tell you what, this is my most favorite way to take pictures.  I do understand the value of a good family “portrait” – a picture where everyone is looking, smiling, and looking their very best, but I think that my favorite pictures are those that catch the light in eyes as they laugh.  My favorite pictures are images of contentment, of joy, of wonder, of innocence, and these images only come from letting kids be kids!  Thank you Creighton family for embracing your girls and their wonderfully different personalities.  Thank you for letting me be a part of capturing their wonderful “moments.”

a friendly reminder . . .

Sometimes even the best of mothers have really long days with their kids…especially when those sweet children are so small.

This morning, I just wanted to remind my dear friend (although, I am sure she didn’t need any reminding), just how beautiful her children were …

family adventures . . . (and perfect light!)

I really love my  job!  I do!

I love meeting new people.

I love watching the way people interact with one another.

I love the way eyes catch light.

I love smiles.

I love getting caught up in a moment.

Meet this beautiful family.  Whenever I have the opportunity to take pictures for a family, I ask them to fill out a small questionaire for me.  This little packet of information is so useful in planning a portrait session, creating unique images, and getting to know my new friends.  When I was reaading over this family’s “bio,” I noticed how much this family does together.  Their children are still so young, so of course they are still all doing things together, but this family seemed special in that it talked so much about how much they LOVED to be with one another.  When I met them at the park, all of their comments came to life for me!  They were not people who were overly concerned with their children’s behavior or participation.  These parents were so very attentive to where the curious feet of their sweet children was taking them.  It was as every moment was an adventure for the little ones and therefore an exciting adventure for the parents as well.

I was so delighted to be able to capture some beautiful moments between mom and dad, between each of the children and their parents, and of course the precious moments they were having all together.  These images will forever hold a period in their lives – a time when everything was new, when life was an adventure.

Thank you for letting me be a part, and I hope you enjoy your “sneak peak!”
