. . . the veil . . .

 07.28.2011  Emily Beck

After your polished feet slowly journey down the pearled walkway, your heart beats faster in your chest, pulsating with affection and love. You are just one moment closer to connecting to your beloved and as your bodies get nearer, your breath gets caught in your throat as you see the desire in his eyes. Within his look, there is compassion and eternal adoration; there you see your life together, all the adventures and moments you two will share. As you stare into his captivated eyes, his fingers tremble as they rise to your face, pulling away the thinly laced veil, revealing you in all your glorious beauty. It is your wedding day and he can finally behold your glowing charm in the fullest. He places the white film behind your face, and it is time to begin your vows.

Are you wanting a special moment similar to this at your wedding? If so, you must ask yourself, to veil or not to veil?

Among the many different styles and types of veils available to you, there are a few standard choices to help you begin your veil shopping. There are three places on which to set your veil: on the top of your head, over your hairdo, or underneath it. For the first type of veil, these are the most traditional form, as they tend to cover your entire head and when put behind your head, they frame your face nicely. These veils tend to hide your hairdo and take the focus from your hair.

For back of the head veils, they can either go above or beneath your hairdo, depending on what exactly you’d like to highlight on your wedding day.

There are a couple of things to consider when shopping for a veil:

-With veils, sometimes less is more. Don’t let a veil overpower your dress or your face; let it be a beautiful addition, not a suffocating pillowcase.

-Paired with a veil, tiaras or bejeweled headbands can turn any headdress into the look of a princess.

-If you want a veil and intend to wear it during your reception, keep in mind that with every hug and dance move, your veil will be tugged at and pulled. It might even fall out, so make sure it’s tightly secured or go for a removable option.

-If you’re having an outside wedding, and you live in a potentially windy area, maybe a shorter veil that won’t get tangled is your best choice.

-If you can’t decide whether or not you want a veil, consider putting flowers or jewels in your hair. You have options, so explore each one of them!

-Most importantly, make sure your veil accentuates and emphasizes your natural beauty. Let it be a nice touch to your wedding ensemble. You are going to be the most beautiful woman in the room, don’t allow your veil to cover that up.
